I Kick A Touchdown Sports Report 32

It is that time of year again where March Madness is upon
us with the Men’s NCAA College Basketball Tournament. Louisville is the #1
overall seed with Gonzaga, Kansas, and Indiana rounding out the other top
seeds. There are 68 teams that have qualified for the tournament with eight of
those teams facing off in the First Four for a chance to move on from the 1st
round to the dance, and be one of the 64 schools playing 2nd round
matchups beginning on Thursday afternoon
Like usual there are a few colleges that very easily
could have been one of the 68 teams but just weren’t good enough. This year the
defending NCAA Champion Kentucky Wildcats lead the list. Kentucky was 21-11 on
the season, but after losing star Freshman Nerlens Noel to a torn ACL in
February Kentucky was never the same, and losing to Vanderbilt (64-48) in the
SEC Tournament sealed their fate. Besides Kentucky, the Southern Miss Golden
Eagles might have the biggest gripe on missing out on the tournament. Southern
Miss was (25-9) on the season and would lose to 6th seed in the
Midwest region Memphis (91-79) in 2OT in the Conference-USA championship game.
Two mid-majors who had a chance to surprise in the NCAA Tournament but faltered
in their conference tournaments were the (26-6) Louisiana Tech Bulldogs from
the WAC whose tournament chances blew up in smoke when they were upset by the UTSA
Roadrunners (73-67) in the WAC Quarterfinals, and the (27-4) Stephen F. Austin
Lumberjacks who dropped the Southland Championship game to the Northwestern
State Demons 68-66. Despite the (27-4) record Stephen F. Austin was out of a
spot the NCAA Tournament despite defeating the 10th seed in the East
the Oklahoma Sooners during the season. Other colleges that simply needed to
make a serious run in their conference tournament to have potentially had a
shot at the tournament were (21-11) Massachusetts out of the Atlantic 10,
(20-12) Tennessee and (21-12 Alabama from the SEC conference, (21-11) Virginia
and (22-12) Maryland from the ACC, and (21-12) Iowa from the Big Ten are the
other colleges that were snubbed by the NCAA Tournament by the fact that they
simply could have shown more on their tournament resume and failed to do so.
The NCAA tournament gets underway tonight with two 1st
Round matchups in the First Four with North Carolina A&T taking on Liberty,
and Middle Tennessee State facing off against Saint Mary’s. With no clear cut
favorite in the tournament this season it will be an interesting tournament to
determine who is hoisting the National Championship trophy on April 8th
in Atlanta, Georgia.
Below is the conference breakdown of each conference,
along with a team by team breakdown of all 68 teams in the NCAA Tournament
followed by the game matchups, time, and channel of each college basketball
game. All times listed below are in EST.
